Basic info

🌍 Welcome to your Mental Health Advocate journey.

This course is about more than learning information. It’s about becoming someone who can recognize suffering, respond with care, and help create change where it’s needed most. Over the next eight weeks, you’ll grow into that role with intention and confidence.

Throughout this course, you’ll build the awareness, language, and presence that define a true mental health advocate. Each week builds on the last, guiding you from understanding mental health challenges to responding skillfully and advocating effectively in real-world settings.

Here’s what you’ll explore over the next 8 weeks:

🧠 Understand Mental Health and the Human Experience
You’ll learn how conditions like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, and suicidal ideation impact individuals, families, schools, workplaces, and communities. You won’t just study symptoms. You’ll learn to see the people behind them.

👂 Recognize Warning Signs and Learn How to Listen
You’ll develop the ability to notice early signs of distress and respond with presence, empathy, and care. You’ll practice listening in ways that help others feel safe, respected, and understood.

💬 Respond with Skill, Language, and Compassion
Across the course, you’ll build practical communication skills, learn how language can reduce stigma, and understand how to support someone without trying to fix or diagnose them.

💊 Navigate Pathways to Support and Care
You’ll gain a clear, advocate-level understanding of mental health supports including therapy, medication, crisis resources, and community-based care. You’ll learn how to guide others toward help while respecting boundaries and autonomy.

🚨 Support People in Crisis and High-Risk Situations
You’ll learn how to recognize suicide warning signs, respond calmly in moments of crisis, and help create safety plans that prioritize care, connection, and appropriate referral.

🧭 Put Advocacy into Action
In the final weeks, you’ll apply everything you’ve learned through real-world case studies, advocacy planning, and practical strategies for schools, workplaces, and community settings.

🧠 Moving Forward
This course is designed to meet you where you are. Whether you’re completing this training as part of a certification, making up a session, or learning at your own pace, you are exactly where you need to be.

✨ You’re not just participating in a course.
You’re preparing to make an impact — one week, one conversation, and one act of care at a time.
